Recycle Your Tree!
The City of Chicago is once again offering to mulch your tree as an alternative to leaving it out with the trash. The closest site to the WANT community is at Margate Park (4921 N. Marine Dr) on the lakefront, just south of Foster.
According to Kori Rumore of the Chicago Tribune:
The city's Christmas tree recycling program was organized by the Department of Streets and Sanitation and the Chicago Park District in 1990. Since then, the program has turned more than 220,000 trees into mulch.
Residents can drop off real trees at one of 25 locations throughout the city from Jan. 5-19, 2019.
Six locations will have free mulch available for pickup on a limited basis beginning Jan. 7, 2019.
Naked trees only: No trees with ornaments, tinsel, lights or flocking will be accepted.
No bags: Plastic bags used for transport must be removed before placing trees in the stalls.
Come back for free mulch: Available starting Jan. 7, 2019, at Lincoln Park, Margate Park, Mount Greenwood Park, North Park Village, Warren Park and the Forestry site.
